Shapes into Forms

This week grade 4 has been exploring the elements of shape and form. We are learning how to draw realistic 3D forms complete with shading and shadows from a light source.  Here's a video we watched in class that gives a very quick demonstration for the drawings we'll learn to make in this unit.  He makes it look so easy! Before you know it grade four will be displaying drawings like this around school as well...

Psykopaint!

Here's a cool website that allows you to create a digital artwork (from one of your own photos or starting from a blank canvas) in the style of famous artists.
Among the artists you can imitate are Degas, Monet, Van Gogh and many more!  You can save small versions of photos you create on your computer as jpeg files for free once you register as a user (need to provide email/password to log in: check with your parents on this!) Or simply explore and play around with different styles, brushes, colors etc....

Here's a photo I made into the style of Monet (we've been studying him in grade 2 as an influential artist!). I had a photo of lilly pads I took in Australia in January and I decided to make my own version of Monet's waterlillies.. See the before and after!

What are your favorite websites and apps for making art?
I've started a new tab on this blog called "Cool Art Links"...
Email me (garrettam@asbindia.org) your favorite programs and I'll include your picks on this page! There are many ways you can now continue to make art even if you dont have pencil and paper available... Explore what you can do with digital art and share with us what you love to do!

Spreading Love!

In honor of Valentine's Day this week but more importantly the great idea of spreading love through art, here is a collection of pieces created by grade 3 inspired by Pop Artist Jim Dine!

Artists MIA!?

Where have all the artists gone?!  It's been two months since we've had a blog update and in that time we've been printing, recycling, building, painting, smudging pastels, drawing, studying artists... and enjoying some holidays! Time to wake our blog back up and share what we've been up to!  Mrs. G spent the holidays with Coach Dax and their family in the UK and had a chance to see so many famous pieces of art!

They visited the Louvre, Musee de Or'say, Dali Exhibitions, contemporary art galleries, impressionist paintings and so much more in London, Paris, and Brussels!

Back in Bombay the annual Kala Ghoda Arts Festival took place celebrating dance, theater, music, and fine art in India.  Where have YOU seen art with your family lately?!

Grade 4 Body Systems

Grade Four is currently studying body systems in their PYP Unit of Inquiry.  Check out these pieces of art inspired by three artists and their various painting techniques. The people in the photos have been dressed to look like the infamous artists Salvador Dali, Pablo Picasso, and Vincent Van Gogh. Their chests have been painted as if you could see the body systems within them only in the artists' unique style!

Can you identify the art movement they are well known for?
